Looking through the lens, a familiar feeling comes over me at the quiet magic of Caddo Lake. The canoe sits perfectly in the frame, drifting between towering bald cypress trees, their trunks rising straight from the still, shadowy swamp water. My eye is drawn first to the soft gray Spanish moss, cascading in long, delicate strands from every branch. The cool, silvery moss hangs like veils, contrasting beautifully with the warm orange and rust-colored fall cypress foliage glowing in the late light.
As I watch through my camera, it feels like I am in that single canoe, gently paddling through this moss-draped Texas cypress swamp, each slow stroke fading into the silence of the bayou. The water is perfectly glass-like, capturing mirror reflections of the cypress trunks, gray moss, and autumn color. I adjust my composition to emphasize the leading line of the canoe, guiding the viewer deeper into this moody, atmospheric swamp landscape.
I wait for the moment when the canoe aligns with the opening between the trees, framed by curtains of Spanish moss.
